I haven’t seen any pictures of Spelman’s graduation. For a second I thought maybe it hadn’t happened yet because I’ve seen a million pictures of Morehouse. But nope it happened on Sunday.
And yes, I understand that Obama spoke at Morehouse’s but I still think it’s questionable that I haven’t seen…
Thank you!!! I ‘m a student at Spelman and I noticed how ONCE AGAIN our narratives weren’t as valid in relation to those belonging to the students at the institution across the street from us.
i’d like to see more shout outs to black women graduating who are single moms and were doing that while being a full time student. who were working nearly full time. who were running all the organizations on campus. who were doing public service in their community. all on top of getting an education.
because especially at PWI’s black female students are like mammies and are expected to help ourselves academically as well as help everybody else simultaneously
i know how hard many black women work to get to college and finish college and it’s just brushed under the rug like it was easy for them or that they faced no obstacles.
it’s that sort of dismissal that i feel is behind the reason why i don’t really see any widely reblogged pictures of groups of black women graduating.
Glad to know I wasn’t alone on this one …
